1. Accept your invitation to a Phrase account
You’re a translator and have just been invited to join a project on Phrase. You can see the following invitation message in your email inbox:
After accepting the invite you can either choose to create a new user account or directly sign in with existing credentials. The latter would apply if you are already working with Phrase.
Once you’re logged in you can see all projects you've been invited to in your Phrase user account.
2. Working on translation
There are several ways how a workload can be specified within Phrase. If this has not been discussed yet, you and your project/product manager can decide on the best way for you.
The project overview is your starting point after being logged in. From here you can either click on Dashboard or Locales (also: languages) by hovering over a project. You have two options to reach the Translation Editor and get to the the workload assigned to you:
Each Phrase project has a Dashboard, giving you an overview of it’s progress. You can choose from the visible locales listed under Translation required. This list contains all languages with untranslated content. Click on a language to open all untranslated keys in the Translation Editor in order to translate them. The Dashboard is also the place where all the translation Jobs assigned to you are listed if our Jobs feature is part of your translation workflow. More on Jobs right here.
Click on Locales to be lead directly to the list of languages used in the respective project. You can only access Locales you are assigned to.
Either way, you’ll get to the Translation Editor that looks like this:
The Translation Editor represent the main translation workbench and can be split up into three segments. The below segments will cover the basic functions of the Translation Editor. For more detailed descriptions please take a look at our article about the Translation Editor.
1. Search and Key navigation
You can use the search feature in the top left of the window to search through the keys in your project.
You can use Simple Search for a simple query or select Advanced Search for more features. You can then filter the results using the drop-downs below.
To continue, please select one of the keys returned by your query.
You can now go on to edit your selected key in the middle part of the Translation Editor.
The drop-down at the top allows you to select your source language while the drop-down at the bottom determines your target language. If this particular key doesn’t require a translation in your target language you can select Exclude. You can then enter your translation into the target window. You can activate the SmartSuggest feature to get suggestions from the Translation Memory or Machine Translation as you are typing.
Save/Save & Next
Use the Save button or the dedicated keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+S, Cmd+S) to save your translation.
You can activate the Save & Next mode by selecting it from the dropdown next to the Save button to jump to the next key on your list after saving your translation.
You might see another button labeled Verify or Unverify. This button is used in the Verification and Proofreading workflow.
Please check with your Manager about your specific verification workflow.
The Minor change check-box can be used to make a small correction that will not change the verification status of the translation.
The sidebar on the right presents you with context and further information that will help you with your translation work. The Comments tab also allows you to communicate with other users working on the same platform. You can mention and notify them via @username.
